This was my very first Steampunk read and i loved it.
People with extraordinary abilities. Technological Advances in the Victorian era.
And i love the cover!

TITLE: The Girl in the Steel Corset (Steampunk Chronicles)
AUTHOR: Kady Cross
Synopsis:
She thought there was something wrong with her. She was right.
Finley Jayne has known for quite some time that she isn’t ‘normal,’ but when she beats up the son of her employer and is forced to flee, she stumbles into a world where there are bigger freaks than her. They take her in, treat her like family and demand her trust. How can Finley trust them when she can’t trust herself? And why is she drawn to the powerful Griffin as well as the dangerous Jack? She has to get herself under control before she gets into trouble she can’t get out of.

Griffin King is one of the most powerful men in Britain but he couldn’t save his best friend from almost dying. He is determined to save Finley and help her become the person he knows she can be, but there’s evil afoot in London. Machines have attacked humans under the orders of a nefarious criminal called The Machinist. He has sworn to protect his country against such a threat, but he’s never faced any foe like this. However, when he discovers The Machinist’s connection to his past, Griffin vows to end the villain once and for all — but he’ll need the help of all his friends, including the beautiful Finley Jayne – the girl in the steel corset.

 Quotes

"Coming back for more, eh?" Felix grinned at her.“I like a little fight in my girls."
She grinned at him, causing blood to dribble down her chin.
"Then you're going to love me.”
- Lord Felix August-Raynes and Finley

They said he was handsome, rich beyond understanding and had a nice bottom.
- Finley on Griffin King

“If the city of London was a body, Whitechapel would be the groin; a great unwashed area that only showed itself under the cover of darkness, and only for the most salacious of entertainments. No one of “proper” birth ever admitted to going there, but they all did at one time or another—or at least they wanted to. Slumming was very popular these days.”
p.91

“Don't mistake me, Treasure. I can offer you many things, but friendship ain't one of them. Now, for once in your life, be a sensible girl and run away.”
-Jack Dandy to Finley

“I do hope you’re using that thing to look at photographs of Moulin Rouge ladies as a young man your age should, and not hunting down another bothersome criminal.”
-Cordelia to Griffin

"As nice as this is, I refuse to be carried into my own home by a girl who weighs a good three stone less than i am."
-Griffin to Finley

"Why are we arguing about Jack Dandy?
Griffin reluctantly drew his own hand back, as well, "Because part of you likes him".
(I love the little jealousy here)
-Finley and Griff

"I promise you i will be careful with my affections, but beyond that i can offer nothing else. I cannot tell my heart what to feel."
-Griffin King

Something drew his gaze. A young woman in a splendid feathered costume that made her look like the most exotic bird. His heart gave one tight thump against his ribs as he recognized her. His senses had found her even when he hadn't been looking
-Griffin King

"Don't you ever be 'umble. You are deserve to be treated like a queen. Certainly by better than the likes of me, but i can't seem to 'elp myself."
-Jack Dandy

"I'm Jack Dandy, love. I'm one of the coldest darkest bastard in all of London, don't you know? Nothing hurts me, so don't you worry your pretty little head about it."
-Jack Dandy

"He had enough money and power to do whatever he wanted but he had no idea how to tell a girl that he wanted her a part of his life, Part of his family."
-Griffin King

"I don't care that you could cosh my head in if you wanted. I came here to get you and if i have to, I'll toss you over my shoulder like a sack of potatoes and carry you all the way to Mayfair. I'm taking you home where you belong."
-Griffin King
(Man that's so sweet! I just fell inlove with Griff)

"Don't cry, Treasure. You'll get me all wet and then I'll melt. I'm made of sugar, don't you know?"
-Jack Dandy
(Jack  Dandy is such a cutie!)
